"If you want to learn about the future, invent it.", Alan Kay

Science Research is a progressive course where students who have a passion for a question, a fascination with a topic, a yearning to find things out will excel in.  Those who are not afraid to try new things and work hard will also benefit from this course.  Students get an overview of the methods used in different scientific disciplines, from Astronomy to Zoology.  They in turn use this knowledge to learn particular approaches used in the specialty of their choice. College-bound students are also made aware of the range of things one can do with a scientific background.  Students are required to complete a scientific project and compete in the Science Fair.  Academic scholarships are available to outstanding projects that win in State Fairs and the Space Congress.
Students gain a lot of hands on experience while working on their research projects.   In certain instances, students are able to work with leading researchers in their research laboratories.  This experience helps them put their foot in the door for entry to a particular lab in their area of interest as they pursue a college degree.  Students often major in the specific area of specialization that they focused on during their Science Research years.  They not only learn how to conduct independent research but also learn how to meet deadlines, effective time management and organizational skills.  All of these are excellent tools for success in one’s college career. Students may sign up for the appropriate level of Science Research during registration.  College bound students who wish to major in a Science discipline are highly encouraged to apply and begin the Science Research sequence in the 9th grade.
